The Story

It’s the year 2043 and 13 billion primates spend their days on the VidNet, where anyone can have their own vid show but it’s the viewers, not the shows that are rated. Individuals wear Power Rating buttons that display their fame, popularity and influence on a color scale of Purple (lowest) to Red (highest).

The algorithms that determine rating are only understood by the computer programs that run VidNet society and the system is designed to make ratings changes unpredictable. If you kill someone, your rating might actually go up.  On the other hand, you could be rude to a stranger and it might go down.

Our hero, Gordy, a solid Yellow, works at VidRateNet the company that officially controls the ratings system and the VidNet, though of course, it’s the computer programs that make all the decisions. His girlfriend, Poppy Nicole, also a Yellow, is an ambitious Vid starlet. To boost her rating, she proposes that she and Gordy meet in REALITY. (Although they have been Vid dating for several months, they have never been together in REALITY.)  Then Poppy has an even better idea – she and Gordy should have sex in REALITY! And of course, it will all happen live on her show, The Poppy Show.

Gordy is understandably nervous. So nervous, that he fails to heed the warning signs of an impending global economic collapse brought on be imaginary sales of the toothpaste brand, Milano Samba Sensations.

Will Gordy be able to save VidNet society? More importantly, will Gordy and Poppy have sex in REALITY? The answers lie in Rate Me Red.
